Maintenance
Maintaining the Menesetung Bridge and the surrounding trails is a core focus of our association, and we are pleased to announce that our bridge restoration project has been completed. The final concrete pour happened at the end of November 2025.
This project would not have been possible without the generous donations of many enthusiastic individuals, service clubs, and members of our various communities. The bridge’s refurbishment will allow the iconic structure to once again safely span the Maitland River for non-motorized public access. Now both locals and tourists can stroll, walk, ski, run, or cycle across it to access adjacent trails or simply enjoy the unique vista that the bridge offers.
This project was also made possible through grants from the Government of Canada through the Federal Development Agency of Canada for Southwestern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), the Trans Canada Trail, Huron Economic Development (SLED), and Regional Tourism Innovation (RT04). The municipalities that border the Bridge—the Township of ACW and the Town of Goderich—have also been most generous in their support of this historic landmark.
We were fortunate to have BMRoss Engineering and StratCon Construction work on this project. In the words of board member Stan Connelly,
“As the Board member involved in the construction site activities of this project, on behalf of our Association I would like to thank the management and staff of BM Ross and Associates for their very cost-effective rehabilitation design and their professional site inspection services and also thank the owners of StratCon and their dedicated construction crew for their creative, safe construction methods and quality workmanship. The cooperation demonstrated by these two companies has produced a finished project that we all can be proud of today and that will extend the serviceable life of this beautiful old bridge for the enjoyment of its many users for years to come. Thank you and congratulations to both these companies for a job well done!”
